Can Anything Seperate Us From The Love Christ Jesus?

The Bible clearly states that nothing can separate the saved from the Love of Christ as Romans 8:37-39 clearly states:

"37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."

But some people who have rejected the doctrine of perseverance of the saints have said that this passage does not mention the fact that we can separate ourselves from the love of Christ Jesus by our actions whether it be by sin or free will. However, it seems that Romans 8:37-39 does teach that even a believers sin and free will cannot separate them from the love of Jesus Christ as the following argument demonstrates:

Premise 1: Anything that is creation cannot separate us from the love of Christ

Premise 2: Believers are a part of creation

Conclusion: Therefore, Believers cannot separate themselves from the love of Christ

Premise 1 is supported by verse 39 that tells us that nothing in creation can separate us from the love of Jesus Christ. From premise 1 the rest of the argument logically follows and so from Romans 8 we can derive the teaching that nothing can separate those who are saved from the love of Jesus Christ. Another interesting thing we can infer from Romans 8:1 is that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. So we find out a beautiful combination of truths from Romans 8 that those who are in Christ Jesus cannot ever be separated from his love nor be condemned. This is surely a comforting truth for all believers in Christ Jesus.

Now, I know that you're already saved by grace through faith, not by one's own works, and even against own sins, but... I think restricting the categories from which such links are randomly and automatically selected would not be such a bad idea after all... :-)

  2. You are apparently assuming that being separated from Christ's love, and being damned, are the same thing. Some Christians assert that a Christian can do things which result in his own damnation. I'm not sure they would say that a Christian can do things which result in Christ's not loving him anymore. I'm not convinced they are the same thing.

As for Roman 8:1, certainly everyone would agree that there is no condemnation for those who are *in* Christ Jesus. But that doesn't address the question of those who *were* in Christ Jesus but, through their own fault, no longer are. In fact 8:13 -- still addressed to the Christians at Rome -- says that "if you live according to the sinful nature you will die"; whereas they will live *if* they "put to death the misdeeds of the body". And verse 17 contains another "if": we are heirs of God and of Christ "if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory"; which implies that if we don't share in his sufferings then we will not be his heirs.

The following verses, all of which are addressed to Christian communities, indicate the possibility of losing salvation through sin: 2 Pet. 2:21-22; 1 Cor. 9:27; 1 Cor. 10:12; Gal. 5:4; Phil. 2:12; 1 Jn. 5:16-17; Gal. 5:21; Eph. 5:3-5; Heb. 4:1; Heb. 6:4-6; Heb. 10:26-31. This is not intended to be an exhaustive list, but what I could come up with on short notice.
