Biblical Arguments For Divine Causal Determinism

In This blog post we will take a look at some biblical arguments for the reformed doctrine of Divine Foreordination or Divine Causal Determinism.

Argument 1:

In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will
-Ephesians 1:11

This verse does not say that somethings works out according to the counsel of his will but rather all things, this would undoubtedly include every action of man and even the disasters that occur in the natural world.

Argument 2:

I know, O LORD, that the way of man is not in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps.
-Jeremiah 10:23

This verse is teaching us that people are not what they are because of what they determine but rather they what they are because God determines them as such.

Conclusion:

From these two verses alone it seems like the doctrine of foreordination or divine causal determinism is reasonable from scripture (more to come in future posts).
